I belong to many tribe but my main ones are Ngati Tahinga and Patupo located in the north island along the west coast of Aotearoa New Zealand. I have lived and raised my daughter in Whaingaroa (Raglan), a small coastal town where both my parents have whakapapa (genealogical) connections. I come from a huge family including 11 full and half brothers and sisters and among us we have a multitude of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I have been involved with Maori Counselling for 14 years over which time I have both taught and counselled it. My introduction in to Māori Counselling was from the Bachelor of Applied Social Science - Te Whiuwhiu o te Hau Maori Counselling. The first indigenous counselling program which incorporated Māori customs and culture ways in working with our Māori people.

In 2011 I began a Masters in Indigenous at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiarangi in Whakatane which is a Māori university. After completing the masters, I am enrolled at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi completing a Doctor of Indigenous Development and Advancement.
